FARMINGTON – The Midland Redskins squad unleashed an offensive clinic late in the game to pull away for a 17-0 run-rule shutout over Test Baseball.
After two quiet innings on both sides, Midland found its groove in the bottom of the third. With two runners aboard, Wil Kraus broke the scoreless tie by lining a two-run double to right field past Test Baseball right fielder Connor Young, bringing home Logan Honikal and Tyler Fryman. Moments later, after a steal by Keegan Sawyer, Lincoln Boyle grounded a hard single to right field to plate Sawyer and Kraus, quickly extending Midland’s lead to 4-0.
The bottom of the fourth inning proved catastrophic for Test Baseball, as Midland pushed 13 runs across the plate to push the game into run-rule territory.
Test Baseball pitcher Michael Pozzi struggled with control, walking both Kraus and Sawyer with the bases loaded to forfeit consecutive runs. From there, the Redskins’ bats took full control:
Boyle ripped his second two-run single of the contest to make it 8-0, before Troy Fisher singled home Sawyer to extend the lead to nine. Dylan Cheek launched a two-run double to right to make it 11-0. Fryman followed suit with an RBI double to center to notch the 12th run.
The inning continued for Midland, which sent 17 batters to the plate, when
Brayden Schmittou, pinch-hitting for Kraus, drew a full-count, bases-loaded walk off reliever Adan Ramirez Jr. to force in another run.
The final blow came off the bat of Sawyer, who punctuated the 13-run inning by launching a towering grand slam to left field. The four-run blast cleared the bases—scoring Fryman, Wyatt Clewett, and Schmittou—and capped off the dominant 17-0 performance.
Starting pitcher Bronson Corpus allowed only a pair of hits and a pair of walks in the shutout win, striking out four batters in five innings.
Midland, having staved off elimination with this win, will be in action Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Ricketts against the defending champion Dulins Dodgers National team with the winning team advancing in the tournament and the loser going home.
Dulins Dodgers National used a six-run sixth inning to pull away from internal rival Dulin’s Dodgers Prime for a 13-4 victory.
The win keeps the National team in the CMWS and sends the Prime team with an 0-2 mark in bracket play.
Dodgers National wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Tommy Baker launched a two-run home run to right field, scoring Jeffery Claycomb to establish an early 2-0 lead.
Dodgers Prime answered back in a frantic top of the third. Mikey Nonis got Prime on the board with an RBI groundout that brought home Kobee Finnikin. Aiden Simpson followed with a fielder’s choice to third to plate Aidan Young and knot the score.
Moments later, a grounder by Charlie Wilson was mishandled by shortstop Spencer Browning for an error, allowing Simpson to trot home to give Prime a brief 3-2 edge.
National promptly reclaimed control in the bottom half of the frame. Claycomb ripped an RBI double to right field to score Jace Elrod and knot the game back up. Carson Sharp followed with an RBI single to left, driving in Claycomb to put National back on top, 4-3.
After Wilson tied the game for Prime in the top of the sixth with a solo home run to left field, Dodgers National’s offense exploded in the bottom half of the frame to break the game wide open.
Sharp scored on a wild pitch to break the tie, giving National a 5-4 lead before John Clark lined a single to center field to bring home Ashten Ballew. Elrod crushed a two-run double to center field, driving in Jacob Pruett and Christian May and Sharp delivered again with a two-run single to right to push the lead to 10-4.
The Dodgers National Team got six innings from starting pitcher Owen Andrews, striking out eight hitters and walking one in a complete game victory.
Ballew punctuated the frame with a towering three-run homer to center field, bringing home Baker and Sharp to seal the 13-4 win.
Dulins National will face the Redskins at Ricketts on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Dulins Dodgers American capitalized on a pair of fifth-inning defensive miscues to edge past the Midland Redbirds 2-1.
With the game scoreless entering the top of the fifth, Dodgers American broke through on the basepaths. Liam Quinlan flared a single into left field, allowing Brody Prather to score on the throw home as Quinlan advanced to second.
Moments later, an error by Redbirds catcher Gianni Corral allowed Quinlan to move to third and sprint home on the same play, doubling the Dodgers’ lead to 2-0.
The Redbirds answered in the bottom half of the frame. Corral helped make up for the error by tagging up and scoring on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of Max Woerner, cutting the deficit to 2-1, but Midland’s comeback effort fell just short.
Jonathan Powell picked up the win for the American team, striking out three and allowing only five hits and a walk over five innings of work. Redbirds starter Trey Giametta took the loss, despite giving up only a pair of runs on four hits and two walks.
The American team will be back in action Wednesday night, with their opponent to be determined while the Redbirds drop into the consolation bracket and will learn their next opponent later Tuesday night.
Easton Roby crushed two home runs and Brand Of Athletes pulled away late to secure a 14-6 victory over Performance Baseball Texas 18U, eliminating the Performance after back-to-back losses.
Brand Of Athletes struck first in the opening frame, plating two runs off a sacrifice fly by Anderson Forrest and a throwing error by Performance Baseball pitcher Hudson Holt. Performance Baseball answered in the bottom of the second, taking a brief 4-2 lead behind an RBI single from Grant Adcock and a three-run double by Holt.
Roby kicked off his big day at the plate in the third inning with a solo home run to right field, cutting the deficit to one. Brand Of Athletes reclaimed control in the fifth with two runs—scoring Jase Winchester on a fielder’s choice and Luke Hill on an RBI single by Brett Carnott—to jump back ahead, 5-4.
The offense broke the game wide open in the sixth, plating six runs highlighted by Hill’s RBI single and Roby’s second home run of the game, a grand slam to right field. Forrest added a line-drive RBI double later in the frame to extend the lead to 11-4.
The BOA Goats, having staved off elimination, will look to extend their tournament run again on Wednesday when they face the loser of Tuesday night’s clash between the NW509 Stars and the Albuquerque Baseball Academy.
