A Shiprock man wanted on a warrant for failure to appear was arrested after reportedly threatening three Farmington Fire Department EMTs with a knife in a Farmington park.
Geoffrey George, 49, was charged with three counts of third-degree felony aggravated assault upon a healthcare working with a deadly weapon. He was wanted on a misdemeanor DWI.
The assault charges are in connection to an incident at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in Farmington’s Veterans Memorial Park, located at 2105 River Road.
The Farmington Fire Department’s Alternative Response Unit was called to the park to assist George, who was found “lying in the middle of the walkway of the entrance to the park,” according to a statement of probable cause.
Three EMTs with the unit approached George and asked if he wanted a ride to the sobering center. He refused, so they asked him to leave, court records state.
George reportedly refused to leave, instead pulling a knife out, pointing it at the EMTs and saying, “Get the f— back,” the statement of probable cause said.
The three EMTs told police “they all backed away” and returned to the Alternative Response Unit bus, which is called out to assist inebriated and downed subjects.
When officers from Farmington Police Department responded, they found George walking further into the park. Officer John Briseno said in the probable cause statement that he “drew” and “pointed his firearm” at George, giving him commands.
George complied and was arrested without incident, according to the statement of probable cause.
George’s preliminary examination is set for 8:30 a.m. May 13 in Farmington Magistrate Court.
