The New Mexico School Boards Association has announced recipients of the 2026 Excellence in Student Achievement Awards and they include several San Juan County school districts.
The awards, sponsored by NMSBA, are presented to individuals selected by local boards of education throughout New Mexico who have played an important role in improving student achievement in their local school district.
A total of 68 New Mexico school boards participated in this year’s program and a record 213 award recipients were selected.
Recipients this year from San Juan County reach from Aztec Municipal Schools to Central Consolidated Schools District.
Recipients were honored at local school board meetings throughout the state including Farmington Municipal Schools at their June meeting.
From administrators to a San Juan College High School teacher, three recipients were part of the cohort that were recognized by the FMS district.
“(Geizi) Dejka, our science teacher at San Juan College High School, has been part of the FMS family since 2014, beginning at Piedra Vista and moving to SJCHS in 2016,” the district said. “She brings 15 years of teaching experience to her current role.”
Elizabeth Galvan, a Work-Based Learning liaison, joined FMS in 2022, according to the district, bringing with her more than six years of experience as a college recruiter for San Juan College.
