An Aztec man has been arrested on suspicion of five felonies for allegedly drunken driving with two inebriated juveniles, and a third juvenile shooting an airsoft gun at bystanders.
Emeleo Ross, 20, also reportedly attempted to strike a woman on a bicycle before crashing his car in a motel parking lot.
Ross was charged with two counts of abuse of a child, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, all felonies, and a petty misdemeanor offense of aggravated DWI.
Ross reportedly was driving a blue Audi Q5 at 12:13 a.m. May 25 in the 400 block of Pima Avenue in Farmington, where one of his passengers allegedly was “shooting at people” from the car, according to a statement of probable cause.
A woman was “struck with projectiles” near her lip and right eye, so she attempted to “confront the occupants” while riding her electric bike, court records state.
As she approached the Audi, Ross reportedly “swerved” toward her and “narrowly missed her” before she fled the area and contacted Farmington Police, according to the statement of probable cause.
After that, Ross reportedly ran the Audi into a curb in the parking lot of the Motel 6, located at 1600 Bloomfield Blvd. in Farmington.
Ross, when questioned by police, allegedly admitted that “he swerved the vehicle toward a female while attempting to flee because he was scared,” court records state.
Police noted in the report that Ross had “bloodshot and watery eyes” and smelled of alcohol. He refused to participate in a field sobriety check and refused a breath test.
When his vehicle was searched, police reportedly found an open bottle of Pink Whitney on the driver’s side floorboard, multiple cans of Twisted Tea and a “dark-colored bong,” where the two juveniles – a teen boy and a teen girl were seated in the backseat, according to the statement of probable cause.
Police also found an Orbi airsoft gun in the vehicle, according to court records.
A preliminary examination is set for 8:30 a.m. June 4 in Aztec Magistrate Court.
