Colorful floats traveled down Main Street on Wednesday night during the Farmington Pride parade as supporters and members of the LGBTQ community celebrated the start of several events to come this weekend.

A banner that read “Queer Joy is Resistance” was carried through the route and floats featured performers and advocacy for equality.

Bekah Davis, also known as King Beibs, proposed to her partner Nicole Halle, grand marshall, during the parade.

Representatives of Sasha’s Rainbow of Hope, a nonprofit advocacy organization, said events this week are all part of bringing representation in a safe space for those that may not see themselves in other settings.

“Safety in some ways come from familiarity,” said Sarah Branch, treasurer of Sasha’s Rainbow of Hope.

Events this year include Pride in the Park on Saturday at Berg Park starting at 2 p.m. and a Pride Swim at Farmington Lake on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
