A Farmington man is being held in jail without bond after authorities say he stabbed another man outside an East Main Street motel.
Stephen York, 31, is charged with third-degree felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to an arrest affidavit, York allegedly approached Kalpesh “Ken” Patel at 7:03 p.m. April 12 outside Room 114 at the Encore Motel and stabbed him on the left side of his stomach..
Two witnesses told Farmington police they saw York approach Ken and hit him in the stomach, the affidavit says. A third witness said she saw York with “a rusty knife in his hand,” according to the affidavit.
York was visiting his parents at the motel, the affidavit says.
Patel was treated for a ½-inch deep wound, which doctors said was “not life-threatening,” the affidavit says.
York left the scene, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was taken into custody April 18 and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center.
The San Juan County District Attorney’s Office filed an expedited pretrial detention motion to detain York until his trial. It cites York’s criminal history, including convictions for battery on a peace officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault and possession of a controlled substance.
A hearing on the motion is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 5 in District Judge Stephen Wayne’s courtroom in Aztec.
