FARMINGTON – The high school basketball season takes on greater significance this week with district play across all classifications getting underway across the county.

Among the bigger showdowns on this week’s schedule is a girls basketball clash between the top two teams in Class 4A when Kirtland Central visits Gallup on Thursday night.

On Tuesday night, Farmington will look to rebound from a loss against Hobbs when District 1-5A action gets underway at Rio Rancho High School when the Scorpions challenge the Rams.

Wrestling teams will be in action this weekend at Hozho Academy and Santa Fe High School while local powerlifting teams will open their seasons at Piedra Vista and Shiprock High.
