The Jeff Solon Swing’n Big Band returns to the Event Shed at the Aztec Museum & Pioneer Village on Friday.
The popular Durango-based band features an eight-piece classic swing and jazz ensemble led by multi-instrumentalist Jeff Solon. The band brings the 1930s and 1940s Big Band era to life with high energy and meticulous musicianship. Their beloved mix of classic Big Band tunes and mid-century favorites include “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Sentimental Journey,” “Stardust,” “Take the A Train,” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
“The Solon band is always a hit for our Music at the Museum series,” said Joan Monninger, the museum’s executive director. “Coming off the storm damage last month, the Event Shed is cleaned up with new gravel, and we’re ready to welcome folks for a wonderful evening of musical nostalgia in the Pioneer Village.”
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, west gate opens at 6:30 p.m. Guests should park in the municipal lot behind the museum, 125 N. Main, off Park Avenue. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations are accepted. Concessions will be available. There are chairs for 150 people, and guests are welcome to bring seat cushions or their own chairs.
