FARMINGTON – The Farmington High volleyball team took home the top prize in this past weekend’s Four Corners Honors Tournament at Scorpion Arena.

The Scorpions clinched the championship with a 3 games to 1 victory over crosstown rival Piedra Vista, topping the Panthers and improving to 3-1 overall this season.

Both Farmington and Piedra Vista will take part in tournament action this week in Santa Fe. The Scorpions will play a trio of matches beginning Friday morning, facing Espanola Valley, Hope Christian and Santa Fe Indian School at Santa Fe High.

The Panthers will also be a part of the tournament and will open against Valencia, Grants and Santa Fe Prep on Friday.

Boys Soccer

Pagosa Springs rolls past Aztec

Junior Ryder King and senior Gavin Carter each scored a pair of goals in a 7-0 rout over Aztec at home Saturday afternoon.

Seniors Jacob Castaneda and Milo Deitemeyer also scored a goal, as did sophomore Angelo Medina in the contest, pushing the Pirates to their second straight win and a 3-1 record in the early season.

Aztec, coming off an 8-1 loss against Taos one day earlier, have lost three straight and fall to 2-6 overall this season. Aztec will be back in action on Saturday at noon when they visit Bernalillo.

Bloomfield finishes 2-1 in Hatch Tournament

The Bloomfield High girls soccer team finished with a 2-1 mark in the Hatch Green Chili Tournament this weekend, wrapping up the competition with a 3-2 win on Saturday over Deming.

After dropping their opening game of the tournament on Thursday by a final of 4-0 against Gadsden, the Bobcates responded with a win in Friday’s second round, blanking Santa Teresa 3-0.

Senior Brianna Rivera scored a pair of goals in Friday’s win, joined by sophomore Aurelia Armenta who scored a goal in the victory.

The Bobcats return home with a record of 5-1 this season and will host Grants on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Cross-Country

Thompson, Lapahie secure wins at Hamburger Hill

The Shiprock High cross-country teams made it a clean sweep of the individual titles during Friday’s Náshdóítsoh Invitational at Hamburger Hill in Tohatchi.

Shiprock junior Jazelle Thompson won the girls title with a time of 20 minutes, 48.22 seconds, topping Tohatchi’s Catherine Denetclaw of Tohatchi.

Kaden Lapahie took the boys title for the Chieftains, completing the 5K race in a time of 16:46.17, edging St. Michael’s Evans Tracy by five seconds.

The Zuni boys team and the Miyamura girls teams were crowned team champions at the event.
