SUNLAND PARK – Wes Giles-trained Bigg Picture will be seeking his third straight stakes win when he arrives in the paddock as the 3-to-1 morning line favorite for Saturday’s 28th running of the $80,000 Red Or Green Stakes, a restricted Grade 2 event for New Mexico-bred older quarter horses at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
Bigg Picture, owned by Uno Menos and bred in New Mexico by Mj Farms, is coming off back-to-back stakes victories at Zia Park, most recently the Grade 1 Zia Park Championship, in which the son of Big Daddy Cartel beat open company.
Prior to that, Bigg Picture captured the Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship Stakes at Zia Park, one of his five wins from eight starts in an extraordinary 2025 campaign for the 5-year-old gelding. In all, Bigg Picture has amassed earnings of more than $440,000 while winning six times from 21 starts.
Bigg Picture will be ridden Saturday in the Red Or Green Stakes by Jesus Ayala. The pair will break from post eight in the 400-yard contest which drew a field of 11 horses and has a scheduled post time of 4 p.m.
The Red Or Green Stakes will be run as the ninth race on a 10-race card which also features five trials for the Shue Fly Stakes, a restricted Grade 2 event for state-bred 3-year-olds which will be held Saturday, January 31.
A total of 44 horses were entered for the five trial heats, all of which will be contested at 400 yards and will be run as races three through seven on the program.
First post time Saturday is 12:25 p.m. Race days during the 66th season of live racing are Friday through Monday until the season closes Sunday, April 5. Friday and Saturday cards will feature quarter horse racing, while thoroughbred racing will be held Sunday and Monday.
