ALBUQUERQUE — Golfers will hit the links Thursday, Sept. 10 at Sandia Golf Resort for the 32nd annual Toby Wright Memorial Golf Tournament, an event aimed at raising scholarship money for New Mexico students whose parents suffered catastrophic or fatal injuries on the job.
Hosted by Kids’ Chance of New Mexico, the tournament features a four-person best-ball scramble with dual shotgun starts in the morning and afternoon. Following completion of play, an award ceremony and raffle drawing will take place in the resort’s event center.
“The Toby Wright Memorial Golf Tournament brings our community together for a meaningful day of golf while making a lasting impact on the lives of New Mexico students,” Brock Carter, president of Kids’ Chance of New Mexico, said. “Every team, sponsor and donor helps ensure that children affected by workplace tragedies have the opportunity to pursue their educational goals.”
In addition to traditional scramble play, participants can take part in two unique on-course fundraising activities featuring LPGA professional golfers:
Closest to the Pin: Participants get the chance to play alongside an LPGA professional.
Hit Your Drive: Golfers can hit a drive with an LPGA professional.
All funds generated from registration and course activities directly fund higher education scholarships for students pursuing college, university or trade school programs.
Since 2011, Kids’ Chance of New Mexico has awarded more than $1.7 million in assistance to 84 students across the state. The nonprofit organization was formed through the merger of the Workers’ Compensation Association of New Mexico and the Workers’ Compensation of New Mexico Foundation to alleviate financial burdens for families affected by workplace accidents.
