An Albuquerque man was arrested in Farmington on Tuesday and charged with child sex crimes.
Steven Henry Gould, 32, was charged with two counts of second-degree felony criminal sexual penetration of a child over the age of 13.
The charges are in connection to a May 17, 2025, incident at the Coronado Apartments, in the 2600 block of North Dustin Avenue in Farmington.
Farmington police began investigating in April 2026 after they learned a 14-year-old girl was allegedly forcibly sexually assaulted in her apartment by Gould.
The girl in a forensic interview said that her mother picked up Gould in Albuquerque and brought him to their home since he was a longtime friend. During the stay, the man allegedly entered the girl’s bedroom and inappropriately touched her, “causing her pain because nothing like that had happened to her before,” according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.
Gould reportedly left the room but later returned and allegedly forcibly sexually abused her, the affidavit said.
The girl described the act and provided the interviewer with a diagram of her room and showed where the incident happened, the affidavit said.
The 14-year-old told her cousin, who reported it to an aunt, who then told the child’s mother.
The mother allegedly threatened Gould and made him leave the residence.
Gould was questioned by Farmington police detectives but invoked his right to an attorney and refused to answer questions.
He was being held in the San Juan County Detention Center before he was released on Wednesday.
