FARMINGTON – Sunday’s opening round games in the championship bracket of the 2026 Connie Mack World Series extended into Monday after persistent lightning delays forced a stoppage of action at Ricketts Park.

Cozart threw a gem, striking out 10 while allowing two hits and one run in a complete-game effort.
“(Cozart) had a good mix going and got ahead of the hitters,” said Heath Autrey, head coach for the Redbirds. “They didn’t have a shot unless he walked them, and he didn’t. His command was elite and he showed why he’s one of the best players in the country.”
TEST grabbed a 1-0 lead early after Connor Young’s aggressive baserunning, but Cozart responded by striking out the side. Young and Nomar Torres recorded one hit each.
The Redbirds loaded the bases on two walks, then tied the game when Hawpe scored on a wild pitch. Hawpe finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
“He had some good at-bats against those left-handers,” Autrey said of Hawpe. “He didn’t swing out of the zone, took his walks and finally got a ball he could hit out.”
Cole Flashnick’s RBI single scored Ethan Carswell for a 5-1 lead, prompting TEST to replace starter Ben Fuqua with Tripp Kneale. TEST pitchers, including Cayson Loredo, allowed nine runs on seven hits while striking out six in four innings. Hawpe added an RBI single to score Flashnick and Max Belyeu, making it 7-1.

“We know it’s a hitter’s tournament,” Marlins head coach Landry Mayo said. “It’s a very offensive tournament and we told our pitchers to just compete — the other teams are going to score and we’re going to score. When our bats really get going like that, it’s really tough to beat us.”
The Marlins used six pitchers, while BOA went through five. Marlins starter Nate McKnight worked two innings before Cam DeFury took over. Will Grayson started for BOA, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out seven across four innings.
Landon Barnes opened the scoring with a solo homer, followed by Duran’s solo shot. Alex Cooley’s RBI single gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead before Roby’s three-run homer tied the game.
