FARMINGTON – A pair of multi-sport athletes recently graduated from Farmington High School recently announced their intention to extend their academic and athletic careers by signing on with colleges.

Danny Hagstrom, who doubled as a pitcher and outfielder this past season for the Scorpions, signed his letter of intent to join the baseball roster at Lassen Community College in Susanville, California.

Hagstrom, who achieved success both in baseball and football at Farmington High, joins a Cougars baseball team coming off a 28-15 season and advancing to the California Community College Athletic Association postseason.

Hagstrom was a solid contributor on the field. Among his season highlights at the plate last season was a 3-RBI performance including a home run in a district clash at Rio Rancho last April, followed by a 4-for-5 game against Cleveland High.

The Cougars, coached by Frank Avilla, have been a powerhouse in junior college baseball in recent years.

Under Avilla’s leadership, the Cougars recorded their most wins in over 20 years in 2022, 2024 through 2026, and tallied over 120 program wins across the past five seasons.

The Cougars have now made five consecutive NORCAL Regional appearances (2022–2026), and in both 2024 and 2025, Lassen had the honor of hosting back-to-back NORCAL Regionals—the first time that’s happened since 2004.

Avilla is entering his 17th season with Lassen College baseball and his 16th as head coach. His teams have averaged 20-plus wins per season since 2017.

Hagstrom was also a key contributor on the FHS football team, recording nearly 100 tackles in three seasons on the Scorpions football team.

Also signing his letter of intent was recent Farmington High graduate Santiago Gonzales, who has agreed to attend Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California.

Gonzales played a variety of sports during his 4-year stint at FHS, including football, track and field, baseball and wrestling.

On the gridiron, Gonzales doubled as a linebacker and running back, recording nearly 200 tackles in three seasons as a Scorpion.

The Bulldogs, coming off a 4-6 campaign last season, are a part of the Western State Conference and are led by head coach Rick Aguilar.
