The following is a recap of local events for this time period throughout history.
A very rare white gyr falcon is lost and its owner is seeking the public’s help in locating the missing bird. Mike Fauteaux of Farmington is a master falconer and raises birds of prey. But Thursday the tamed gyr falcon pulled a fast one on Fauteaux and escaped. “I don’t think he would go very far,” Fauteaux said. “He’s probably sitting on somebody’s roof.” Fauteaux said the gyr falcon is about 1 year old and is very rare. He is described as about the size of a crow with a very white breast. Its back is a combination of brown and white. The falcon will have a band on its leg.
FOLLOW-UP: The escaped gyr falcon was found after three days.

An appeal for donations of canned goods and garden produce has been made by a member of the Childhaven Inc. board of directors. The temporary-custody home is in need of canned goods including soups, fruits and vegetables, along with baby food. Garden produce – vegetables for freezing and fruits for canning – are also needed.

Last Saturday the sad news was brought to town from Bloomfield that Joe Mangum, 66, old timer and one of the few remaining cattlemen of this section, had passed this life. He had been in failing health for several months. In a conversation with him two weeks ago, Joe said he was feeling some better and hoped to be fit as a fiddle again. However, Joe had worked too long to just sit around so he kept on going, as he should to be happy, until the end. … He was a typical western cowboy, rough and ready, but despite Joe’s rough life on the range he never used liquor or tobacco and had a strict code of ethics about living.

The week has been one of annoying delays in the oil field. This is due to various causes, some encouraging and others otherwise. The Congress Oil Co . encountered a flow of gas so heavy that it would not let the tools touch the bottom with sufficient force to make any progress. The result is that they must run casing and shut off this flow before they can continue drilling.

The San Juan Wool Growers Association will pay One Hundred Dollars Reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of any person or persons illegally holding sheep belonging to any member of this Association.

Last Friday the alarm of fire was given from the Compton building, and the Farmington fire team responded with such alacrity that no very material damage was done. The fire originated from a gasoline stove in an upstairs room occupied by Mrs. Boone. She was engaged in ironing when from some cause a partial explosion occurred, igniting the window blind and the cloth on the table at which she was at work. The fire consumed these articles, but was extinguished before doing other damage more than scorching the woodwork a little.
