ALBUQUERQUE – Jm Famous Wynn recorded the second stakes win of her career when she pulled clear in the final yards down the center of the course to win the $75,000 Vista Distaff Quarter Horse Stakes on Saturday at Albuquerque Downs.
Ridden to victory by Luis Martinez, Jm Famous Wynn broke well from her outside post, was always in contention and began to pull away from her rivals late, winning by three-quarters of a length, stopping the timer in 17.11 seconds for 350 yards.
Jm Famous Wynn earned her first stakes win earlier this year at Sunland Park when she scored in the Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes in January. Owned by Carlos Soto Carrasco and trainer Tony Sedillo, her win in the Vista Stakes improves her lifetime record to win five wins from 14 starts with earnings approaching $192,000.
Bred in New Mexico by Ventura M Ranch LLC, Jm Famous Wynn snapped a two-race losing streak with her victory in the Vista Distaff. The daughter of Jm Specialwynn was off the board in each of her last two races, including a last place finish in the Jimmy Drake Stakes two starts back on May 1 at SunRay Park and Casino.
Jm Famous Wynn, sent off as the second choice on the board at odds of 3.90-to-1, returned $9.80 to her winning backers. The $2 exacta with Heart Breakn Blondie paid back $207.60. Merrmaid was third across the wire with post time favorite Big Jessie rounding out the top four finishers.
Albuquerque Downs will host two days of trials for the Rainbow Futurity, the middle leg of quarter horse racing’s Triple Crown. A total of 30 trials, at a distance of 400 yards, will be held Friday and Saturday to determine the 10 fastest qualifiers for the Rainbow Futurity which will be run on Sunday, July 12.
