AZTEC – High-stakes drama and crowded fields highlighted a thrilling two-day weekend of racing at Aztec Speedway, where regional drivers battled across multiple classes for top honors.
Brody Spangler put together a masterful weekend in the IMCA Northern SportMod division, sweeping both nights of main-event action. On Friday, Spangler bested a field of 18 entries in the 20-lap feature, outlasting Danny Concelman and Chad Green.
Spangler doubled down on Saturday, capturing the 20-lap main event ahead of Concelman and Josh Pate. Brody Spangler also claimed preliminary eight-lap heat victories on both nights, while Pate and Concelman took the other weekend heat races.
Josh Cain was equally dominant in the IMCA Stock Car class. On Friday, Cain navigated a deep 16-entry grid to win the 20-lap feature over RC Combs and Trevor Combs.
Cain returned to the winner’s circle Saturday night, defeating a 13-entry field, with RC Combs and Ron Brewer placing second and third, respectively. Friday’s heat races were won by Jeramy Hughes, Cain and RC Combs, while Saturday’s preliminary wins belonged to Combs, Cain and Tyke Miles.
The headline IMCA Modified division saw two different drivers capture a feature win. On Friday, Waylon Hale mounted a spectacular charge from deep in the field to win the 25-lap feature, with Camron Spangler and Tyrone Yazzie in tow.
On Saturday, Aaron Spangler took top honors in the 25-lap main event, outlasting Camron Spangler and Jerry Harpole Jr. Heat victories over the weekend went to Aaron Spangler, Camron Spangler, Regan Tafoya and Harpole Jr.
Hunter Ferrell ruled the IMCA Hobby Stock division, completing a clean sweep of the weekend features. Ferrell won Friday’s 20-lap feature over Jason Duggins and Steven Ashcraft, and followed it up Saturday by winning the 15-lap main event over Jason Duggins and Kyler Duggins. Ferrell also claimed a Friday heat win.
In the IMCA Sport Compacts classification, John Frans was untouchable. Frans swept Friday’s program by winning his heat and the 20-lap feature over Jayden Small and Gracie Moore.
Frans repeated his main-event success Saturday, winning the 15-lap feature over Ted Neergaard and Zoey Ray. Frans and Clay Tillia split Saturday’s heat races.
The Dwarf/Mod Lite division showcased intense action with two different feature winners. Gabe Shim took the checkered flag in Friday’s 20-lap main event, beating out Chris Lomasney and Kobe Lomasney. On Saturday, Shane DeVilbiss secured the 15-lap feature win ahead of Leon Shim and Chris Lomasney. Leon Shim won heats on both nights, while Kobe Lomasney took Saturday’s other preliminary race.
In the Youth Sport Compacts division, Brantley Frans swept Friday’s action by taking both the heat and the 10-lap feature over Nicky McCormick and Taige Myers. On Saturday, Myers turned the tables to win the 10-lap main event over McCormick, after Frans claimed the early heat race.
