The community will have an opportunity to view an original, first printing of the King James Bible next week at the Pinon Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Farmington, 5001 Foothills Dr.
Numerous other ancient and rare, authentic biblical artifacts will be shown in the exhibit, entitled, “The Enduring Word Museum.” An actual page from the first book printed with movable type, the 1450 Gutenberg Bible, will be on display. Manuscripts in Hebrew, Greek, Ethiopic and Latin, as well as an early Christian papyrus letter (A.D. 250-450), and a complete Jewish Torah will be available for examination.
As part of the museum exhibit there will be a printing demonstration on a full-size working replica of the Gutenberg press. Visitors may get the opportunity operate the press and produce their own copy of a Gutenberg page to take home.
“It’s probably the most amazing, historical and biblical museum you’ll see in your lifetime,” said Pastor Steve Nelson.
The complete display will be open to the public Monday through Saturday, June 15-20. The exhibit curators will answer questions each evening at 5:30 p.m., and will give a different presentation about the artifacts and documents at 6:30 p.m. each evening. An additional presentation titled “History of the Bible in English” will be at 11 a.m. June 20.
