The community is invited to help celebrate the City of Farmington’s designation as a “Purple Heart City” this Memorial Day.
A formal dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, at the All Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2241 River Rd.
This honorary status is the result of a dedicated community-led initiative to recognize the sacrifices of military members wounded or killed in combat. By joining the Military Order of the Purple Heart’s honorary trail, Farmington pledges to remember and support the local “Combat-Wounded” veterans who have served our nation.
Master of Ceremonies, local media personality Scott Michlin, will preside over the morning’s events.
Keynote Speaker, Matthew Sims, a three-time Purple Heart recipient and acclaimed author of Why is My Heart Purple?, will share insights on the significance of the medal and the veteran experience.
Farmington Mayor Nate Duckett will formally present the resolution, designating Farmington as a Purple Heart City.
The Northern Navajo National Guard will also perform a traditional 21-gun salute to honor the fallen and wounded.
