The San Juan College Planetarium invites the community to its next AstroFriday presentation, “Sunstruck,” on Friday, May 8, with shows at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
This month’s feature is a solar full-dome show about 21 minutes in length. Travel back to the beginning of time and experience the birth of the Sun. Discover how it came to support life, how it threatens life as we know it and how its energy will one day fade away. After the full-dome video, a live night sky show will be presented on what to observe in the evening sky of May. Free spring sky maps will be available while supplies last.
Admission is free, but seating is limited to 60 people per show and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no late admittance once the show has started.
Weather permitting, a public stargaze will follow at 9:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind the Planetarium. The stargaze has no capacity limit and will feature the majestic planet Jupiter, the “double-double” stars Alcor and Mizar and our binary North Star, Polaris.
