Just before the Farmington Evening Lions Club settled into its April 20 meeting, a quiet moment of recognition underscored a shared mission: investing in the next generation.
The Lions presented a $500 check to the Four Corners Stockmans Association, honoring its work to uplift and support local youth.
The donation reflects a partnership rooted in service, with both organizations committed to expanding opportunities for young people – particularly those with disabilities, special needs or mental health challenges.
Through scholarships, agricultural education, suicide prevention outreach and inclusive events like the Unlimited Livestock Show, FCSA’s and FELC’s support the global cause of youth empowerment while helping preserve the region’s agricultural traditions.
Jennifer Halphen, president of the Four Corners Stockmans Association, was presented with a $500 check for it’s work helping Farmington Evening Lions Club with its overall goals of youth empowerment.
“One of the Global Causes for the Lions Clubs is Youth Empowerment bringing the work of FCSA to the forefront,” said Wesley Brown, FELC president. “FCSA helps provide financial and educational opportunities working with Youth with Disabilities and Special Needs.”
Additionally, FCSA works with suicide awareness, focusing on prevention and mental health services for young farmers and ranchers, Brown said. They help with scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are pursuing a career in agriculture-related fields.
There are many other programs that help the youth in 4-H and the National FFA Organization, as well as other agriculture-related projects, Halphen said.
The Unlimited Livestock Show at the county fair each year represents work with who who have special needs or are disabled. The youth show pigs at the event, giving them the opportunity to learn values, skills and help the traditions of agriculture to thrive for generations to come, Halphen said.
“FELC feels their work is a worthwhile cause, following our Global Cause for Youth Empowerment goals,” Brown said.
