KIRTLAND – Kirtland Central senior Krista Tsingine-Yazzie, one of the integral parts of the recent success achieved by the school’s girls basketball team, has agreed to extend her academic and athletic career at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tsingine-Yazzie, a five-year starter on both the Kirtland Central girls basketball and volleyball teams, has been a consistent athlete on the court. Her ability to draw defenders in the lane was a major contributor to the basketball team winning their most recent state title.
Tsingine-Yazzie will pursue a degree in Exercise Science with a focus on athletic training, while continuing her athletic career as a dual-sport athlete in both volleyball and basketball.
Her accomplishments at Kirtland Central include multiple selections to the first team district rosters in both both volleyball and basketball.
Tsingine-Yazzie was chosen to compete in last month’s annual Red & Green All-Star Game, celebrating the state’s top high school basketball players, while also appearing in four consecutive girls basketball state championship games.
The Broncos brought home the state title in both the 2024 and 2026 seasons, while Tsingine-Yazzie also received All Academic honors in each of the last four years.
Haskell Indian Nations University’s women’s basketball team finished 14-16 last year and are led by veteran head coach Adam Strom. Tsingine-Yazzie will join former Kirtland Central teammate Keira Beall-Gleason on the court.
