Farmington Parks & Recreation will host two Lake Safety Day events at Lake Farmington on May 2 and June 12, offering a mix of safety demonstrations, community resources and recreational activities as the summer season begins.
The events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will focus on water safety education alongside seasonal recreation.
Attendees can participate in games and music, purchase food from local vendors and attend demonstrations on life jacket use and lake safety rules. Safety-related giveaways will also be available.
While the events will feature aquatics information and training, the beach and aquapark will not be open for swimming during event hours.
Local and state organizations are expected to participate, including the Boys & Girls Club, the New Mexico State Boating and Safety Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with other community groups.
The first 125 attendees at each event who purchase a seasonal lake pass will receive a 50% discount, according to organizers.
“Lake Safety Day started out as a small idea focused on bringing attention to water safety,” said MaLeah Isaacson, aquatics manager. “That idea has blossomed into an event built for the community, by the community. We are excited to be partnered with so many people and organizations dedicated to keeping our beautiful lake a clean and safe place for families to enjoy.”
