A Farmington man on probation for drug-related crimes was arrested April 15 and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on a warrant for a third-degree felony aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Johnathan Lamy, 33, was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in San Juan County court. He has a lengthy criminal history that also includes crimes in La Plata County, Colorado.
In this case, Lamy allegedly left a woman in critical condition after severely beating her on Sept. 24, 2025. He has been wanted since that date.
Farmington police investigated the beating of Symantha Sam, who suffered a fractured temporal bone, a fractured parietal bone and subdural bleeding between her brain and her skull. Sam’s hand also was injured, according to the affidavit for an arrest warrant.
Sam reportedly told police that JP, a nickname for Lamy, kicked her in the head and the left thigh after accusing her of “taking his property.” The beating allegedly happened near Orchard Plaza in Farmington, the affidavit says.
Lamy’s convictions date back to 2013, when he pleaded to a charge of aggravated battery. Since that time, he has been charged with aggravated battery, resisting arrest and assault upon a health care worker. He has been convicted of battery, drug possession and unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon.
Lamy’s preliminary examination is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 29 in Farmington Magistrate Court.
