Vehicular homicide charges have been filed against a Fruitland man accused of killing a newly married couple in a reckless driving crash on New Mexico Highway 371.
Rolandrick Randall, 21, was arrested April 1 and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on two counts of third-degree felony homicide by vehicle.
The charges stem from a July 29, 2025, head-on collision that killed Serene Dildanges Mikel, 23, and Casey Daniel, 23, of Federal Way, Washington. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mikel and Daniel were traveling from Washington to Texas, where they planned to start their new life together, according to Brea Mikel, Serene’s sister.
“That life was unfairly taken from both of them. Our family is still reeling from this devastating loss,” Brea Mikel said.
According to the affidavit for arrest warrant, Randall was on his way to work at Whataburger in Farmington when, shortly before 4 p.m., he was seen driving a white Hyundai Sonata into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed.
Randall reportedly struck a brown Ford 400 driven by Mikel head-on, according to the affidavit.
Randall had to be helped from his vehicle by witnesses, and “a glass pipe fell out of his pocket” at that time, the affidavit said.
Magistrate Judge Stanley King signed a search warrant for a blood draw from Randall because the pipe “was used to smoke marijuana,” according to a New Mexico State Police report.
Randall’s blood was drawn at 5:41 p.m. July 29, about 1½ hours after the crash, according to the report.
Randall was treated at San Juan Regional Medical Center for a broken leg, broken wrists, broken ribs, broken ankles and ruptured intestines.
A preliminary examination is set for 8:30 a.m. April 15 at Farmington Magistrate Court.
