Now in its 17th year, the Easter Eggstravaganza is moving from the Sycamore Park Community Center to the more spacious Farmington Recreation Center to accommodate growing crowds and roughly 40,000 eggs that will blanket the grounds.
What began as a small after-school activity has grown into the county’s signature Easter celebration, drawing thousands of families and prompting organizers to expand while keeping the event rooted in the community center staff who built it.
“It’s getting bigger, better and hoppin’ to a brand-new home,” said Gina Intoppa, marketing and communications manager for the city of Farmington, in a news release. The event marks its 17th year and its debut at the Farmington Recreation Center, 1101 Fairgrounds Road.
“The event continues to be coordinated and organized by the Sycamore Park Community Center staff,” Intoppa said.
“While we used to begin filling and counting eggs as early as January, we now find it more efficient to order them prefilled,” Intoppa said.
Intoppa said the event began as a small community center activity for an after-school program. When the large-scale Easter event previously hosted at Brookside ended, the Sycamore Park Community Center egg hunt grew into the county’s primary Easter celebration.
