Bonnie Dallas Senior Center Manager and Adult Programs Manager Jack Lowery projected a good turnout for the High Desert Games back in April, and he was correct.
Lowery said in a recent phone call, “The games went exactly as planned, participation was good this year, with over 100 participating in everything from croquet, darts, bowling, shuffleboard and pickleball.”
“There was a lot of enthusiasm … everybody really had a good time,” Lowery said, adding that “there were a couple of hiccups, but they were easily overcome.”
He said the weather early at the beginning games was “still very brisk” for the morning events. He said that “kept a few people home,” particularly for the horseshoes and bocce ball events.

Lowery said they overcame it because there was no mud, just “very chilly’ temperatures, especially for the early morning events.
“I would say the overall satisfaction rate this year was a good 90%,” Lowery said.

Lowery said the organization is expanding the number of events from last year to include billiards, disc golf, boccie ball, pickleball, shuffleboard, darts, eight-ball pool, table tennis, bowling, croquet, nine-hole golf, a 2K fun walk/run, free throw and “horse” basketball competitions and a field day with soccer skills.
According to Lowery, the High Desert Games have taken place since at least 2011. “I’m sure it happened prior to that year,” he said, but he was unable to locate records in the Senior Center archives for games held before 2011.
