BLOOMFIELD – Student athletes from Bloomfield High School took part this week in a mentoring program at Central Elementary School to meet with students with the intent of showing youngsters about being a positive role model and the values of leadership.
More than two dozen athletes from the Bloomfield High School football and volleyball team took part in the event, which featured Halloween-style costume events and more during a get together in the elementary school cafeteria.
“Our collaborative goal as a Bloomfield High School team is to vertically and academically align the school, our students in athletics, clubs and activities with our elementary schools and junior high,” said Bloomfield assistant football coach and high school campus coordinator Eric Stovall. “Our kids are learning and embracing important life values of leadership and mentoring while building positive connections with our elementary students and staff.”
With both the Bloomfield volleyball team and football team in the heat of district games this week and with both teams likely headed to the postseason, the student athletes took time from their school day to help be a positive influence in a young student’s growth.
“This mentoring program will continue to grow each school year, and positively align with the community around town,” said Bloomfield head football coach Mike Kovacs.
