The 12th annual Sassy Tortoise and Hare 5K and 10K Run/Walk took place in downtown Farmington on a blustery Saturday morning. A benefit event for Sexual Assault Services of Northwest New Mexico was still a success, according the director Eleana Butler.
Butler said 136 people were registered and about 125 showed up in spite of the blustery weather.
“I am thrilled with the amount of participation and support we received this year. It was great partnering with Locke Street Eats,” Butler said. The run/walk began and finished at Locke Street Eats, with a number of vendors providing food and drinks.
“They were prepared for all of us. That was really great,” said Butler about the vendors.
“They’re committed to the community and mental health and making sure people receive the other services and support they need,” Butler said regarding Locke Street Eats.
The Sexual Assault Services office in Farmington is celebrating its 20th anniversary and their office in Gallup is celebrating their 10th anniversary, Butler said.
